The Fairview Fire has burned over 700 acres and is just 5% contained, resulting in 2 deaths.

The Riverside County Fire Department was called to a brush fire in Hemet that began on 20 acres but had since spread to more than 700 by 7:51 p.m. and was only 5% contained. Two residents have been confirmed dead from the fire, according to RCFD Capt. Richard Cordova. At its height, the Fairview Fire, which began at 3:37 p.m. near Fairview Avenue and Bautista Road, was consuming light to medium vegetation at a rate of about one acre per minute.

The areas south of Thornton Avenue, north of Polly Butte Road, west of Fairview Avenue, and east of State Street in the Hemet Valley foothills are under mandatory evacuation. The region south of Stetson, north of Cactus Valley Road, west of Fairview Avenue, and east of State Street that was initially under evacuation orders was later increased. Tahquitz High School, which is located at 4425 Titan Trail, has become a care and receiving location for evacuees. At least one citizen suffered burns to their arms, back, and face and was taken to a local hospital.

In the 41400 block of Gibbel Road, several buildings caught fire, and at least six dwellings were reportedly destroyed. Several people who were caught in the Gibbel Road fire were rescued by fire crews. There are 33 engine companies, 6 air tankers, and 4 helicopters fighting the fire, as stated on the Riverside County Fire Department's website. Burns to the arms, back, and face were found on one additional patient who was rushed to the hospital. Several people who were caught by the fire were rescued by firefighters, the TV station said.

Smoke puffed in the backdrop as Captain Richard Cordova briefed reporters, saying that the fire had already spread rapidly before firemen arrived. He reported that first responders had gone door-to-door in an effort to evacuate the neighbourhood. So far, he said, none of the around 200 firefighters who are battling the fire have been harmed. As of roughly 6:00 p.m. local time, Cordova reported that the blaze in the area's vegetation had burned approximately 600 acres and was not confined in any way. Cordova also mentioned that aircraft were dumping water and fire retardant from above.

According to KABC-TV, the area has been experiencing a prolonged drought and scorching temperatures over 100 degrees as the fire spreads swiftly. Deputy Sheriffs from Riverside County went door to door in the affected areas to make sure everyone had gotten out safely. At 6 o'clock, there were already dozens of planes and hundreds of firefighters working to contain the blaze.

California has been particularly at risk for destructive wildfires as of late due to drought and high temperatures. Around 5 o'clock that evening, an hour after the Fairview fire began, residents of several East Hemet neighbourhoods were told to leave their homes. Several buildings burned to the ground, and one individual had burns and was taken to the hospital.
